Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of internalized shame between parental psychological control and children¡¯s aggression. The sample consisted of 232 children in the 5~6th grades of elementary school from J & W city, Jeonbuk, Korea. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Cronbach¡¯¥á, t-test, pearson¡¯s correlation, and structural equation model analysis using SPSS 23.0, AMOS 18.0. The findings were as follows: First, parental psychological control showed clear differences according to gender. Aggression and internalized shame also exhibited differences according to gender. Second, parental psychological control and internalized shame showed a positive correlation with aggression. Third, the mediating effects of internalized shame on the relationship between parental psychological control and aggression were identified. It can be thus inferred that parents with infants and children are educated and influenced by psychological control. Children who express frustration are in need of psychotherapy to lower their internalized levels of both shame and aggression.
